Posing Tips, Pictures and Videos

Since many of the ladies I shoot are not professional models, I'm often asked if I can give any tips or hints on how to pose during a Boudoir Featurette video shoot.

3D Model Posing Guide Pg.1(I don’t expect my ladies to know how to pose themselves, that’s my part as the videographer.  However, if my ladies can come prepared, it can make for a more comfortable and fun experience.)

Key Points To Posing For A Video:

1.) Eye contact with the camera. 99% of your attitude, sensuality, sexiness and who you are is conveyed through your eyes.  Your eyes are the gateway to your soul, and you are pouring out your soul to the person who is watching your Featurette on the other side of the lens.  So make it intimate, make it personal, make it soulful - using your eye contact with the camera.

3D Model Posing Guide Pg. 22.) Go slow.  This is not still photography, where you pose and then move out of the shot quickly.  This is a motion picture and I am capturing every subtle movement your body makes.  So when you strike a pose, I may ask you to follow the camera with your eyes as I sweep the shot from your head to your toes.  Or I may ask you to look over your shoulder at me, or give the mirror a kiss, or turn your shoulders toward the camera.  In each of these examples, going slow is the key to a great shot.

Also important is: Practice!

Practice, practice, and practice some more.  An old trick of modeling is to look in a mirror to see your facial expressions and your poses.  It's good if YOU know what your "sexy" facial expression looks like in the mirror, instead of guessing in front of the camera!  Lock your bedroom door if you have to and practice in front of the mirror.

The other ingredient to great posing is mixing your own personality in with it.  The more you practice, the more you will feel comfortable enough to start adding in your own style and personality… which always makes the best shots.

Most importantly Have fun with it!
